# The Importance of Knowing Basic Mathematics Principles

The geometry portion of math teaches us about the properties of points, lines and planes. It also enables us to measure and compare figures in two-dimensional or three-dimensional space.

Among the most important aspects of geometry are lines and angles. Geometry explains that straight lines are parallel, and that a right angle is exactly 90 degrees. It also identifies shapes, such as the pentagon, hexagon, heptagon and octagon, with varying sides and angles. The modern mathematical field of topology is a sophisticated extension of geometry that deals with objects that can be shrunk, stretched or bent but not ripped.

## Algebra

Algebra involves the basic operations of addition, subtraction, multiplication and division with unknown values or variables. It helps in converting day-to-day problems into mathematical equations that are easier to solve. For example, an equation such as 3x + 2 = 8 is easier to understand than the one just x+2 = 8.

A mathematical expression is formed using constants (also known as numbers), variables, and basic arithmetic operations of addition(+), subtraction(-), multiplication(x) and division(/). The expression can be simple and use alphabets like a or it can be complex and have letters such as x, y, z or even more complicated combinations of letters like x2 y3 or x3y2.

The study of algebra also includes the study of groups, rings, fields, lattices and vector spaces which are used in many applications in mathematics and other disciplines. Besides, abstract algebra is the study of algebraic structures and their properties such as associativity, commutativity, distributivity etc.

You will also need to have a clear idea of how to use data in order to perform the calculations that will interpret the results.
